Inside specially marked boxes of General Mills cereals, you’ll “commence operations” with one of five characters from The Penguins of Madagascar; Skipper, Rico, Kowalski, Private or King Julien. Each participating cereal contains one character launcher with mission details outlined on the back of the box including:
- Dive In, Soldier – Set an empty plastic cereal bowl on the table and try to pop your launcher into it. Wear a helmet or you’ll be squid bait.
- Longest Propulsion Launcher – Challenge your troops to see who can launch their character the furthest. Go long or go back to the zoo.
- Target Practice – Create a landing zone with a spoon and try to strategically drop your character into the sweet spot. Hit the target or go back to the drawing board.
- Clear the Wall – Do you have enough projectile pop to push your launcher over the top of the box? Proceed launchin’ troops, earn those wings!
Each character is unique and has their own specific role, and together, they’re a team with lots of character. With five character launchers to collect, make a splash this summer and try to successfully complete all of their missions.

Oh I have a fond, upsetting memory of toys in the cereal box, haha. I hate Captain Crunch. Always have, once they had this cool 8 ball toy, so I BEGGED my mom to let me have the cereal. I promised I’d eat it all and she caved in. There was No 8 ball in my cereal box, I was so upset. I wrote to them, and they sent me the toy, but I still remember it!
I loved getting prizes in the cereal box. My brother and I were not allowed to “dig” in the box for the prize we had to wait for it to spill out. So we would race one another for the box to try and coax the prize out. Good times.
We had 5 kids in our family growing up, so we had a lot of cereal. I would fight with my brother about who would get the prizes first. My sister’s and I would hide the cereal in the dishwasher so he thought we ate it already and then he would eat waffles instead. The girls got the prize every time. It took him years to figure out how we did it.
I remember how happy I was to dump out the whole box of cereal into a bowl to get the prize out! Not as many cereals are doing the prize in the box anymore. My kids would absolutely love it if we won this!!!
Definitely! I think I poured a whole box out in search of a toy!
I remember my husband (at the time he was my fiance) was over at my house and we were looking for something to eat and decided to eat cereal just because the box said there was a prize inside and since that’s rare these days we were pretty excited to see if it really was a prize or a mail-in thing. Well, there was a boy’s hotwheel watch inside! My fiance was so excited that when I went to throw it away(since it obviously isn’t something an adult could wear even if they tried) he said no because he wanted to keep his prize…
This puts a smile on my face. We ate ALOT of cereal just to get the prize. It was always a race and there were days when all we ate was cereal!
I used to love looking for the prize. Wonder why they don’t really do that anymore…
No childhood memories of toys in the box here but we just pulled out an ugly Shrek princess doll from honey nut cheerios…I wanted to throw it away but my girls wanted it! Funny how our perspective is so different as adults:)
I loved these when I was a kid. When my kids were little I would take the toys out as soon as we got home from the store and hide them. Then I would use them as stocking stuffers.
I totally remember the toys in the cereal. It was a huge thing. We always tried to influence my mom into buying the cereal with the best toy in it. Today my son was so excited to get something in a cereal box he opened it the minute we got home.
i have memories of hoping with all of my might that the prize would fall into my bowl while my parents were pouring our cereal…. whoever’s bowl the car/stickers/plastic figurine would fall into got to keep it
I remember digging my arm through the cereal in search of the toy…Gross! Funny enough we got the shrek toy in Honey nut cheerios the other day and I noticed it was not IN the cereal, just in the box. Genious!
My brother and I would choose the cereal based on the toy that came with it! We didn’t care if we actually liked the cereal! ha,ha! Of course, our mom would make us eat it whether we liked it or not!
I used to LOVE to get the toy out of the cereal box! I remember my mom getting so frustrated because i would only pick the cereal by the toy they had, even if she knew I wasn’t going to eat it. She has told me since that she ate a lot of cereal for lunch and dinner while I was growing up. HAHA! But, she said she did it because my face would light up like it was Christmas morning when I would get the toy out of the box.
Oh yeah, great memories of prizes in cereal boxes. I used to pull the bag out of the box to look for the toy and then could never get the bag back in quite right once all the cereal had shifted… it was a dead giveaway that I was nosing around for the prize! Great marketing plan, I wonder why it didn’t stick?
I loved finding the toys in cereal boxes. Sometimes we would buy a specific cereal based on the toys inside. I always loved the games and things on the back of the box too!
i had food allergies as a child, so cereal wasn’t much of an option, but i would have loved to get toys.
I have many fond memories of fighting with my sister over the toys in the cereal boxes. I was a pro at getting the toy out without emptying the box first.
I once won a bike in a cereal box when I was a kid. I thought it was the greatest thing ever. It even had a banana seat.
I remember that we bought cereal based on the best toy inside-then sometimes my folks had to make me eat the cereal!
My husband I and were just discussing the other day how when we were kids there were so many fun things inside cereal boxes! I miss that!!!
It was always a race to get to the bottom of the cereal & find the toy. I also remember getting the toy out of the Cracker Jack’s box!
I do remember digging through the cereals that I hated, just to get the prize. My mom would hate that my sister and I would never get it. All we wanted was the toy! : )
I have fond memories of finding toys inside of cereal boxes as a child, but it didn’t happen often ~ my Dad raised sugar beets and he didn’t like for us to purchase anything “presweetend” (he wanted us to use sugar) lol
So, not only were toys inside a cereal box a rare treat, so was cereal.
I remember putting my hand down the box into the cereal just to get the toys and getting the cereal all dirty.
Thanks!
I remember pouring all of the cereal out just so that I could get the toy and paying for it later by my mom. LOL
I hope that we win! Thanks!
i remember sticking my hand down the box (even if it was full of cereal) just so my brother wouldn’t beat me to the prize first..haha!
As a child our parents would always yell at us because as soon as the box was open the arms dive strait to the bottom of the box in a frantic panic trying to see who grab the prize first. Cereal flying every which way and mom trying to rip the box away. It makes me laugh looking back at what brats we were!
