Thanks so much to reader Diane, who tipped me off the to the fact that Target has made an update to their coupon policy regarding Buy One Get One FREE coupons.
Here is the update:
Buy One Get One Free Coupons (BOGO):
- BOGO coupons cannot be combined (i.e. you cannot use two BOGO coupons on two items and get both for free). Unless stated otherwise on the coupon, the use of one Buy One Get One Free coupon requires that two of the valid items are presented at checkout of which one item will be charged to the guest and the 2nd item will be discounted by its full retail price. (I never thought this was OK, but I am guessing they must have had lots of people trying, so they had to get it in print)
- A second cents-off coupon of the same type cannot be redeemed towards the purchase price of the first item.
o If a Target BOGO coupon is used, one additional manufacturer coupon maybe used on the first item.
o If a Manufacturer BOGO coupon is used, one additional Target coupon may be used on the first item.
Here is my question for you: Have you had luck using a BOGO coupon on a BOGO deal? I have been denied twice recently. This policy doesn’t state how that scenario would work, but I would love to hear your experience.

I did yesterday, I bought the women’s Degree deoderant get the body spray free. Used the coupon for ‘Buy a body spray get deoderant for free’. Walked out with both items no charge. Great deal!
I have never had luck on any BOGO deals with a BOGO coupon, even for stores whose coupon policies clearly state they will accept them.
That being said, I would think that the fact that they state they will accept a Target coupon and BOGO can be used implies that the BOGO free coupon and a Target sale should work. The idea is that the coupon allows reimbursement for the part of the sale that is not already factored into their promotion price. Just a guess of course though
I did the same Degree deal and had no problem whatsoever. It would be my understanding that if Target is offering a BOGO in house (would be the Target “coupon”), that a manufacturer’s BOGO would be considered the other part of the two coupons per item that they accept. I’ve also done it with Old Spice in the past and never had an issue. At our Target I scope out the cashiers because I know that there are certain ones who would tell you that you can’t do certain things that are outlined as okay in their coupon policies- I avoid them at all costs
I just bought Degree yesterday with a B1G1F coupon and used 2 $.75 coupons (one for each product) at my Target with no problem.
A couple of weeks ago I bought some Lean Pockets meals – 1 Target coupon for BOGO free + 1 Man. coupon for $1.25 off 2 pkg. I used both coupons, so I got one free and $1.25 off the second one.
Well, it appears as if I have just been unlucky. I know that Sia and I shop at the same Target, so that could explain why both of us have the same problem.
I am going to give it another try at a different Target!
@Dawn I know what you mean about scoping out the cashiers. Unfortunately, there was only one register open when I shopped on Monday (it’s a slower store). It just happened to be the one cashier that I try to avoid. She always gives me grief, even though I am properly using my coupons.
I’ve done it in the past & have had to talk to people above the cashier, but after explaining Target is paying for one, & the manuf is paying for the other, they get it.
I don’t understand this at all. lol “BOGO coupons cannot be combined (i.e. you cannot use two BOGO coupons on two items and get both for free).” Why would you use two BOGO coupons and only get two products for it? If they have a BOGO sale and you have a BOGO coupon, that means you buy one and get two free correct?
I used the bogo coupon on a 4 pack ( target special) of degree that was on clearance for $4.00 and got 8 sticks for $4. Thought that was a pretty good deal ( just make sure the price is under the maximum retail value)
