All week long I will be focusing on the individual departments on their respective mark down day. I will go more in depth as to what you can find in each of the departments. Today I will focus on the departments that have their markdowns on Monday, which is Electronics, Books, Children’s Clothing, Accessories, and Stationery. If you were heading to Target on Monday, these are the departments you would want to check first, because they would be the ones that were marked down most recently.
Electronics (and books):
Out of all the departments that do their markdowns on Monday, the Electronics department is by far my favorite. The first thing I do when I head to the store on Monday is go straight to the Electronics department. One of the easiest things to find on clearance are video games. Since video games are always evolving, they often come out with new versions, which means they need to clear out the older versions. The majority of the video games I pick up for my kids have been purchased at Target at 75% off.
There are lots of great items in this department that you can find at 75% off, I have purchased cameras and MP3 players at 75% off. This department also carries iPod cases, headphones, printers and so much more! In fact, just today I was able to find a couple printers marked down to 75% off. There are rumors that the electronics items will only get marked to 50% off and then they will be salvaged, but as long as I am seeing 75% off items (like I am now), I won’t worry about it too much.
When books get marked down they usually end up in the electronics department. All of the American Girl books I have purchased for my daughter have been found in the electronics clearance section (at 75% off, of course!). The good majority of clearance books tend to be children’s books.
Another great thing about this department is that the items here, are usually great items to sell on Ebay if you are looking to make a little extra cash. I don’t sell on Ebay as much as I used to, but when I did, I would check this department on a regular basis and here is why:
- Electronics sell great on Ebay. If you can find an item at 75% off and then sell it on Ebay, you should make a nice profit. The higher price the item is, the more profit you will make.
- Video games are so easy to sell on Ebay. You just enter the ISBN number and all the information pops up for you. Plus, they are also very easy item to ship.
Stationery/Party Supplies:
There isn’t always a ton of clearance in this department, but it’s a fun department to check. Here is a list of some of the clearance items you may find in this department at any given time:
- Party Supplies
- Gift Wrap & gift bags
- Note Cards
- Art Supplies
- Crayola Items
- Calendars
- Office Equipment
- Candles
- and more
The items I pick up most in this section are the gift bags, when I find that several have been marked down to 75% off I will pick some up so I have them on hand for when I need to wrap a quick gift.
Accessories:
This department includes all of the purses, bags, hats, scarves, belts and wallets. This is usually a good section for clearance items too, because the style and colors of all the accessories will change with the seasons. Target will occasionally release some printable Target coupons for the items in this department, and most of the time they can be used on clearance items, which sometimes makes for FREE items.
Children’s Clothing:
You will almost always find several racks of clearance clothing in the children’s departments. They will range from 30-50-75% off. Honestly, I don’t really bother buying anything unless it is 75% off. I like to buy the majority of my children’s clothes BEFORE they need them, so I can pick them up really cheap. I keep all of the clothing in a bin in our garage and when they move into the next size of clothing, we already have what they need (purchased at a BIG discount). This really is one of the biggest ways our family saves money.
Since Monday is the markdown day for the clothing, you can usually find a rack of 75% off clothing in at least one of the children’s departments (girls, boys, baby, or toddler). Target will occasionally release children’s clothing coupons too. If you do see a clothing coupon you are interested in, you will want to print it right away. It seems like clothing coupons only last a day or two before they disappear.

I was told the other day at customer service that Target will not price adjust clearance items. I bought a Garmin last week at 50% off and I was hoping this week it would go to 75%. If it is 75% should I return it and rebuy it??? Thanks!

Yes, your best bet would be to buy one that is 75% off and then return the one you bought at 50% off. If there aren’t any available to purchase, I would just keep the one you bought at 50% off. If you return it, it usually takes awhile for it to return to the sales floor, they won’t just resell it to you after you return it.
You are correct that Target does not offer price adjustments on clearance items.

OK, didn’t realize that they would not price adjust on clearance, it’s still a great deal at 50%. I’m in Las Vegas and the clearance items you showcase weekly are right on with my local store. Thanks for the help!

I have been watching those and they were still 50% off at my store yesterday. Hopefully, next week!
