These little pies are great for a picnic. They are prepared in 4″ canning jars so there are no need for extra plates. Just eat them right out of the jar!
Standard crust recipe:
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon salt
cold water
Filling:
2 cup strawberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup of sugar
1 tablespoon flour
Combined dry ingredients with pastry cutter, add a little cold water at a time until form a ball.
Roll into four 6″ circles.
Place dough into 4″ canning jars and press down into the jar. Cut off excess dough.
Mix together berries, sugar, and flour in a bowl. Add to prepared jars. Fill jars 3/4 full. Make sure you do not over fill because is will bubble over and make a big mess.
Roll out a small amount of dough to make a 3 inch circle, cut out the circle with the top of the canning jar.
With a small cookie cutter, cut out a small whole in center of the 3″ circle. Place crust on top of canning jar and press down around the edges.
Bake at 400 degress for 25 minutes. This recipe will make 4 jars.
