If history repeats itself, this should be the week that the majority of the clearance toys get marked down to 75% off at Target. The toy clearance was marked down to 75% off this week last year. Β Can’t wait for the fun!
Most stores markdown the toy department on Thursdays, so if you don’t want to miss the sale, that is the day you should be checking your Target. Β To find out if the sale has indeed started on Thursday morning, you will want to check in on the Thrifty & Thriving Facebook page, I have numerous readers who will be posting what they find at their stores. Β Everyone is welcome to post on Facebook – the more the merrier! Β You may also want to check in on Wednesday morning, just to be safe.
Here are some important points to remember:
- Don’t trust what the red markdown signs say, check the red stickers on the individual items. Scan the items too!! Β It may say 50% off, but once you scan it, you may find that it’s 75% off instead. Β If this happens, you must do a happy dance!
- Don’t assume that if the toys at your Target are only 30% off right now, that they won’t got to 75% off this week. In years past, I have seen toys go straight from 30% off to 75% off. Β It can happen!
- They toys at some stores may not be consolidated to a whole aisle or on the endcaps, you may have to check up and down each aisle.
- When the markdown takes place and news gets out, the aisles can get crowded, if at all possible it’s best to leave little ones at home . Β If you can shop this sale without children, a MAJOR happy dance is required!
- Put items in your cart that interest you first, and decide later if they are a good fit. Β I always go through my cart before I head to the checkout to make sure I only buy the items that will work best for my gift giving needs. Β It’s much easier to put everything in your cart on the first go round and then take the ones out you don’t need.
- Make a list and stick to your budget.
- Have fun and be friendly!
- Save some Lego’s for me!

I will want to hear about all of your finds! Once the sale starts, I plan on posting a link-up so everybody can share the fun deals they found. Β Does anybody else have a hard time falling asleep the night before they think the sale will start? Β I can’t be the only one.

I have to say, I don’t really agree with the throw it in your cart and decide later. Last year, a friend and me went and saw two ladies who had 3 carts over flowing at the end of the isle just sitting there while they went back to the isle to grab more. They couldn’t even stay with their carts because they were literally grabbing every thing off the shelfs. It didn’t leave a whole lot for the rest of us. I’m sure that’s not what you mean, but I hope the ladies will be courteous of others.

Can anyone post what they are seeing on sale I live near GB Wi and have to drive an hour to find out waht good deals I could get.
Christy says
@Amber – Oh goodness NO, that is not the message I was trying to get across. I updated my post, so it seems less “greedy”.
I am saying that it’s much easier to put items into your cart and then decide who they would be for at the end, and then you can take out the items that you don’t need.
Here some examples what I was talking about:
1. Let’s say you have a list of 10 kids you need to buy for. You see a Barbie doll that would be great for Susie, but you want to make sure there isn’t something better first, so you leave it on the shelf. You later decide the Barbie was the best gift, you go back to get it and they are all gone.
2. I shop this sale for my sister, instead of calling her 5 different times, I put the items I think she would be interested in my cart and then I call her at the end. I take out the items she is not interested in. It is much easier to put it all in at once, rather then trying to get back down an aisle and figure out exactly where it was.
This is totally for convenience, not for greed!!

Hi, do you know if any stores in the Bellevue area still have Legos that might go 75%? I have 2 kids that love Legos!! I have not had a chance to check the Issaquah Target yet, and I was wondering if you did. Thanks!!

I went to Target a couple days ago and they had a whole ton (over 50) Kung Zu style Zuzu Pets for… $1.25 EACH!!! These are awesome little toys and so much fun to watch! If you don’t have kids but have a cat it’s a great pet toy too! Our kids and cats equally enjoy chasing them around!!!
I live in Malaga, Wa but shop at the Wenatchee Target.

When the day comes, do they switch in the morning and then start putting new tags on? Best to be there when they first open or do we need to wait a little to let them do their thing? Thanks!!
Christy says
@Mickey It really depends on each store and their markdown team. I have gotten to the store at 9:00 and they are just starting to mark things down. I have also gotten to a store shortly after they opened and everything was already marked down. More times than not, if you go in the morning they will be working on marking things down while you shop, which isn’t always the most convenient.

@Amber… those ladies with overflowing carts were probably buying to resell on Ebay or at flea markets. And, if you beat the to the store, they are the reason you want to put it in your cart first and make a final decision later. I ran into a few of those last January and they were taking everything in multiples… luckily I’d beat them to the store and grabbed all the things I had to have first. π

Don’t forget those target catalina coupons for Hot wheels:) and the FS Trio coupons that were on the website a short while ago. I also want to encourage everyone to consider picking up just one or two toys with the plan to donate them during the holiday season. Our family shops this sell every year for Toys for Tots. It ‘s easy to pick up a really nice item for the children who would likely never see it otherwise! AS always, I will keep you posted with what I find here in Orlando. π
Nicole says
WIll Target price adjust if you already bought them at the 50% off?
Lisa says
@Nicole
Not usually, I have gotten them to do it on one item, after I was told it wasn’t going any lower than 50%, then it did. But mostly, at least here in Oregon, they say no.
April says
I went to a less shopped Target near our home today and saw the employees moving all toy clearance to the end caps and to a designated aisle. They were also taking down all red clearance signage on the aisles were the toys were displayed originally. Thinking it could be Wednesday or Thursday at this rate. Recommend checking both days. Oh the suspense is just too much!
Shopping for Savings says
@Nicole, they won’t PA at our store but if you’re going to the store, take your old receipt with you. If they have more of what you bought at 50% off, buy another one and then just go up and return it with your 50% receipt to get the difference back.
Allison says
Is it normal for stores to mark their final clearance at 70% instead of 75% off? I went to my target today, and the employees were there marking everything down. I loaded up my cart with the things that I wanted and as I was adding up my total I noticed things were way discounted but weren’t at 75%. I’m TOTALLY not complaining, because with my coupons I got $305 worth of toys for $80. I just thought it was weird because everyone else has been mentioning 75%………
Emily says
75% off now here in Richmond, VA! I got a nice pile of toys for my two boys’ upcoming birthdays for just $25. Very pleased!!!
Christy says
@Allison – Some Target stores are trying out a new markdown system where things only go down 70% off, and also 25% off instead of 30% off. You must live in one of these areas. Congrats on the finds! If you want to send me a photo at thriftyandthriving@gmail.com, you can be entered to win a $20 Target gift card. I would love to see your finds!
