All week long I will be focusing on the individual departments on their respective mark down day. I will go more in depth as to what you can find in each of the departments. Today I will focus on the departments that have their markdowns on Tuesday, which are Women’s Clothing, Pets and Grocery(food items).
If there was a day of the week I would skip shopping at Target, Tuesday would be that day. They departments that get marked down on Tuesday, are a little bit boring. Here are the specifics of each department that gets marked down on Tuesday.
Women’s Clothing:
I am not certain the women’s clothing still gets marked down on Tuesdays, I think it may happen on Mondays, but that could just be at my store. I have mentioned before, that sometimes the markdown days will vary by location. In any event, the women’s clothing department is an area that you should always be able to find at least one or two clearance racks. Just like the majority of the clearance, they get marked down to 30-50-75% off. You will find a greater amount of clearance when they bring in new clothing styles for the upcoming season.
Target will occasionally release Target coupons for clothing, and when they do, it can really make for some amazing deals, especially when you pair those coupons with clearance items. I used coupons on the clothing I bought in the photo above, and I was able to get a shirt for $ .74 and some sweats for only $ .48. The original price for both items totaled $36, you can see that by combining the clearance prices (75% off) with the dollar off coupons, it allowed me to bring the total cost down substantially.
Pets:
I don’t really shop this department all that often, because I don’t have any pets. Actually, that’s not true we do have pets, we have goats, but you don’t really see goat supplies at Target. This department does not have as many clearance items at the other departments, and it is very rare that the pet food makes it past the 50% markdown, it is usually snatched up before it get to 75% off.
I have noticed that you can find bird feeders and bird houses that go on clearance in this department as well.
Grocery :
The grocery department is one of those departments that usually has their clearance start out at 15% off. I am guessing since food is a more popular item it doesn’t need a big discount in order for it to sell. Also, you will find that alot of these clearance items will stay right where they are on the shelf. This is particularly true for the frozen and refrigerated foods. They don’t have a special frozen food clearance spot, so you just need to watch for clearance tags as you walk down the aisle. If there is a good amount of dry and packaged clearance item in the food department, they may move them to an end cap. If you have a Super Target where they carry alot more food they may have a specific spot of clearance food, so just check your store to find where it may be.
Just like the pet department, it is rare to find items marked down to 75% off. It does happen, but not all that often. The great thing about the clearance items in the grocery department is that there is usually a good chance you may have a coupon to go along with the items making for an even better deal.

You are rigt! Women’s gets marked down on Tuesdays. The stores are aloud to get 1 day ahead though so if they are on a roll then the price accuracy team will get there a day early on anday. Same with all depts. You will also find that as the holidays get closer the markdown days will change and for a couple weeks there will be none at all until a week before Christmas when all of the toys start being marked down. Happy shopping!

OMGosh! What is with my typing?? Geez. If they are a day early they will do Tuesday’s workload on Monday and so on.

@Beth I have totally noticed that about there not being as much clearance as it gets closer to Christmas. I figured there wasn’t any time to mark it down since they were busy stocking and selling it all. All of the clearance that happens after Christmas more than makes up for the slow time before Christmas. 🙂 I love January at Target!

Yeah, as the store gets busier with holiday shoppers the price accuracy team who usually works M-F will be taken to weekends and nights when the store is heavier so there are more team members for guests and re-stocking shelves. January is totally the best time to shop!

I will add that our Target (in WI) has VERY cute birth announcement on clearance right now. Both girl and boy. Box of 50 for just $3.24 (down from $24.99) I’m kind of picky about cards/invitations/announcements but these I would have snatched up in a heartbeat if I were pregnant!
