My husband and I plan on going out sometime this weekend for a cheap date night. Don’t you love when you get a little break from reality and it doesn’t cost you much money? I do!
Here is what we have planned:
Go to the movies:
I have FREE movie passes for both of us that I earned from Fred Meyer back in April. They expires soon, so we want to make sure we take advantage of them.
Dinner:
We will be using a gift $25 gift certificate from Restaurant.com, that I was able to purchase for $2. We are required to spend $35 before we can use the $25 gift certificate, so we will be spending at least $10 + tax and tip (on entire bill). Restaurant.com currently has a 70% off code, so you could get a $25 gift certificate for only $3. Just use the code DAD at checkout.
What are some of the things you do for a cheap date night?

Christy, I would love to hear how the restaurant deal works out for you. I thought that you had to purchase $35 then anything over that for the next $25 was covered by the coupon. Since I don’t usually have an “extra” $35 laying around, I always passed on the deal BUT if I can spent $35 – $25 gift certificate + the tax and tip, then I WOULD DEFINITELY be interested. I hope you have a great date night.

We love to spend time outdoors, kayaking, hiking and a nice long walk at a nature reserve make a great and a very cheap date day for us. We are lucky to look in the pacific northwest where there are do many fun cheap things to do!

Chip, We have used lots of restaurant.com gift certificates and have never had a problem. You do just need to have your bill equal $35 in order to use the $25 gift certificate. It really is a great deal! Just make sure you double check the requirements, some exclude drinks or certain hours. Occassionally, instead of a $35 minimum, they require that you buy 2 entrees. Give them a try!

Christy, I did give them a try this morning. I picked several local restaurants to try. I had a couple of questions so I called customer service. They were very helpful. It looks like there will be a few “date nights” in my future. Thanks!

I don’t get the restaurant deal. If you spend $35, you’ll end up at at least $44 after tax, tip, and the cost of the certificate. If you apply the $25, that will bring your out of pocket cost to $19…is that about right?
Christy says
Sarah, you figured it out correctly. It isn’t cheaper than going to a fast food restaurant, but the food is much better, it’s a more enjoyable meal, and we usually always have some leftover for lunch the next day. We usually use these certificates once every or every other month. It allows us to go out for a nice meal with a much lower cost than usual.

Sarah, to give you an example… My husband and I went to Johnny Carino’s and bought an appetizer, two drinks and two entrees to spend at least $35. I think in the end we ended up pay about $20 out of pocket .. but that basically the cost of his entree. The trick is to go somewhere where meals are about $15-20 and then you’ll spend about 50% of what you normally would. Still a pretty good deal. AND if you can find a restaurant in your area that wouldn’t charge a tip you can REALLY save some money. I had a bakery in Texas that participated and I loved getting these certificates to cover 1/2 or more off of specialty cakes, etc…
