I just love the decorative balls placed in bowls or vases as a decor for your home. For Valentine’s day thought I would make balls out of ribbon roses and dress up the house for Valentine’s day. I think they turned out great, I may even leave them out all year round! Plus, they take very few supplies, but they do take some time.
Supplies:
- Ribbon (For small roses use 1/2 inch for the larger rose size use 1 1/2 inch)
- Styrofoam balls
- Glue Gun
- Glue Sticks
First, make lots of ribbon roses. They are pretty easy to make once you get some practice at it. The amount of roses you need will vary depending on the size of balls and size of ribbon you use. I had a 4″ ball using 1 1/2 inch ribbonn and it took 24 ribbon roses. I also made roses with 1/2″ ribbon and it took 40 ribbon roses. This is by far the most time consuming part of this project. I made roses for an hour or so for a few days while I watched TV and what not.
This is how you make the roses:
Start with about 2 feet of ribbon, then fold over ribbon down (as shown in photo above)
Then start to roll the ribbon, to create the center of the rose.
Next, start to twist ribbon to the left with your left hand and turn holding the tail with the right. Tack down with a dab of glue every few turns.
Continue this same step until you are happy with the this size of the rose
Then trim off excess ribbon and hold in place with a dab of glue.
Once you have lots of roses, you can start to assembling the balls using glue gun, start to glue the back of the roses to the ball,
You will want to stagger the roses a little so they aren’t in one solid row, this will give it texture and dimension.
Add roses until the ball is completely covered. This project can be time consuming but very worth it. I am very happy with the results and didn’t cost much at all.
