Coupon Ethics
I love finding a great deal but I try to live this creed. “If I have to cheat, lie or steal to get a good deal, then the price is too high.” So, here are a few things you may or may not know about couponing.
1. It is illegal to photocopy any coupon. You may usually print two coupon from websites by backspacing but that’s all. There are a few manufacturers who still use .pdf files. I recommend going to the official website to check for the coupon.
2. Just because you found it on the web doesn’t make it legitimate. There are a lot of people out there who can manipulate coupons into fakes and using them equals stealing from a store. Stores are not reimbursed for fake coupons. Cents Off keeps a list of fake coupons and the rewards offered for turning in the maker.
3. Just because the store takes the coupon doesn’t mean it’s real either. You can pretty much live by these coupon rules: A. If its too good to be true, it probably is. B. If you can print as any as you want, red flag. C. If there is no expiration date, bar or security code, another red flag. If you think coupon is questionable please check the source.
4. Try to abide by every store’s coupon rules. This may vary by store. It helps to know the rules before you shop. Don’t be afraid to ask questions to get to know the rules at the store you are shopping in.
5. Unfair coupon treatment at the register. If you feel you were not treated fairly at the register with your couponing, it is best to ask politely for a manager or contact the store by phone or e-mail later. Being angry at the cashier never helps.
