I have been thinking about buying a small donut maker for quite some time. Well I finally did it and I’m so glad I did! I absolutely love it, using it is so quick and easy. I had a ball decorating them and making all kinds of adorable donuts. I purchased the Mini Babycakes Donut Maker, I love that it’s super small and doesn’t take up a lot of room. Boy, does it cook the donuts fast and they turn out perfect every time.
I tried a couple recipes in the instruction manual, they both were great. Here is one:
Sour Cream Donuts:
- 1 1/3 cup flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt in mixing bowl. In mixer beat together milk, oil, sour cream, egg and vanilla, then add dry ingredients and blend until smooth.
Using a decorator bag add batter to the donut maker. Bake for about 3 minutes (can you believe that in 3 minutes you can have donuts!)
Let cool and add icing or coat with cinnamon-sugar. Is so much fun to decorate these little gems.
They also include a recipe for chocolate donuts too!
Here is a recipe in created for the icing:
- 1 TBSP melted butter
- 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1-2 TBSP milk
Whisk together butter and powdered sugar, gradually add milk until smooth. Add icing to donuts and sprinkles if desired.
There are so many fun ways to top these, sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, coconut, nuts. Your options are endless. I love the little heart sprinkles. It would be easy to makes these for each holiday just use seasonal sprinkles.
I put off this purchase for a long time because I wasn’t sure my kitchen needed another appliance (I am sure some of you can relate). I am so glad I took the plunge and finally bought the Mini Babycakes Donut Maker! It’s very small and doesn’t take up a lot of cabinet. I know we will get a lot of use out of this little cutie. I purchased the Mini Babycakes Donut Maker (4 donuts) for only $14.99 at Amazon (Keep in mind Amazon prices can vary from time to time).

Jen, I received a similar product as a gift from my mother-in-law for Christmas a couple years ago. Three minutes and we have donuts is awesome! We are a gluten free family and I can make donuts without gluten at home! I just swapped out the flours. They may not rise as much as the gluten-based ones – not sure as I haven’t made those. I do know they taste good. With four boys (two teens) and a husband, I have to double the recipe or I have little chance of getting a couple for myself. I love your photos! I’ll have to try the recipe you listed with sour cream – sounds yummy. Oh, and chocolate donuts – next on my list! ~Adrienne
